Small Fit but Comfortable, Quality Fleece Sweatshirt.

This American Apparel California Fleece Raglan is a comfortable basic sweatshirt. The crew style neck hole is somewhat tight. Otherwise, while they are “small fit,” I feel as if these are true to size. Their size chart seems correct, even if it only includes chest and sleeve measurements. XS is smallest and XX-Large is the largest, so I think they’re meant to fit on the small side. Since these are smaller fit, they’d be perfect for children. For a sweatshirt, top of the line quality and the inner fleece is extremely cozy. I’m female, 5’7”, 34A, 27”W, 115lbs and XS fits fine. Small would probably be less constricting around the neck and cuffs. Otherwise, the actual sweatshirt part is quite roomy if you subtract the bands on arms, neck, waist. The sleeves are nice and long that I can pull down over my hands. Great for layering, which I do often because I’m always cold. One could get DIY and create their own -and maybe more comfortable- style by cutting off the crew neck and making an off-shoulder, scoop, v neck, backless halter -anything! Get rid of the waistband for a crop look or cut thumb holes in the sleeves. Yeah, sweathalters will be all the rage next season. Actually, that’s not a bad idea.... Not sure if I’d justify a simple sweatshirt at this price (20$ - 36$ at this time), definitely not 36, but about 20 seems fair for American Apparel. The quality is top notch. I think these are meant to fit small, so I would definitely size up if you’re looking for something more spacious and loose fitting.. Thank you for reading and happy shopping!

Not as nice as the Flex fleece version but still acceptable

This is a nice basic sweatshirt, a staple for most wardrobes. I found the construction to be sturdy and I was unable to find any manufacturing flaws. The cut is a little narrow all around but it does seem to be true to size. The sleeves are long enough for a tall individual, which seems to be a common problem in shirts now. The material is soft and the interior is very nice, however some of the seams do rub and itch. The neck hole is just slightly too small. This is made in the USA and 100% cotton. There was very minor shrinkage but it didn't affect the sizing. Care instructions are machine wash and dry. I received this and the Flex fleece to review. Interestingly, the price of this fleece is higher than the flex fleece (currently $20 to $36) and yet we prefer the Flex fleece. The cut is a little more comfy, the seams are nicer and lay flat without rubbing, and the fabric is thicker on the Flex fleece. Combined with the price, between the two, that would be my vote.

Loses shape, loses color, shrinks in the wash

This is a good sweatshirt for doing manual labor in the cold, but don't expect it to look nice for long. It loses dye, loses shape, and shrinks in the wash. I wouldn't buy from this brand again.

Decently soft, well-constructed fleece raglan pullover.

I got this American Apparel California Fleece Long Sleeve Raglan for my youngest son, who is only 10 but tall for his age and rapidly outgrowing kid sizes. It fits him decently well with a bit of wiggle room to grow into, and it is well constructed with no loose threads or flaws of any kind on it. The material is decently thick, and it's soft on the inside, which he likes - plus it keeps him nice and warm. It's already gone through the wash a couple of times, and there was no fading or bleeding at all - and we didn't notice any shrinking, either. Its simple but classic design along with the navy color works well with just about anything casual in your wardrobe. It also has a little bit of stretch to it that moves with the body. It makes for a nice, basic staple and a go-to in your closet on chilly days. My son likes it and finds it comfortable for school (and he's sensitive to certain textures in clothing), so that's good enough for me. Two thumbs up from this household!

Runs small

This is a nice sweatshirt. It does run small, though, I ordered it for my daughter and it was way too tight and short. She's 5'4, 110lbs, size junior's small, and I ordered her an extra small since it's supposed to be adult's unisex sizes. It fits my 9 year old son good, he wears a boy's medium or large (10-12), the sleeves are just a bit long on him. It is very soft and fleecy inside, he says it's cozy. The neck hole is a little tight, he has to stretch it open even for his small head. He'll keep this one since he likes it so much, but I think I'll have to order my daughter a medium.

Great unisex clothing brand!

I am a long term fan of AA brand. The clothes are made with high quality materials and the clothes last long time to wear off. This fleece is slightly thick and feels very soft inside and outside! Sometime AA’s sizing is very tricky so I was worried about being too small. However, I got men size XS, they seem to fit like a glove! (I am a woman, petite) overall, I love this fleece and the quality.

Basic sweatshirt, very soft, somewhat small neck hole.

I ordered this sweatshirt for myself, but it was a little too small, so my son is modeling it. He's 10, so perhaps this sweatshirt runs somewhat small. I usually wear an x-small or small. Also, I noticed that the neck hole is pretty small, which I don't really like, and my son didn't either. And the neck hole doesn't have much stretch so you really have to push your head through the hole, which is never very comfortable for a sweatshirt. Overall, I would say this sweatshirt is okay for cold weather and keeping you warm, but not my favorite in terms of design.
