Very nice and distinct looking deadbolt, and good customer service
This deadbolt is a definite visual upgrade over typical deadbolts. It also seems very sturdy, and includes internal/hidden bracing pieces not found in any of the more common deadbolts I have used. You can see them in the picture of the installation instructions included here. I guess other high end deadbolts may include similar components, but I have not seen them before. The quick key feature also works as claimed. There is no need to order your deadbolts, knobs, etc. from Baldwin keyed alike. You can quickly and easily change the keying to match whichever pair of keys you like. In my case I got two of the deadbolts and one of the lever handle plus deadbolt combo, and I changed the two deadbolts to match the keys that came with the combo. I did not research whether the quick key change mechanism is any type of security risk, but you do need the old key in the lock first, with the lock turned. This means that anyone wanting to switch to a different key would have already needed to pick the lock at a minimum, so I doubt the quick change opens up any new vulnerabilities. Finally, when I called Baldwin to get customer support on the combo set, I got a U.S. based lady who spoke English as her first language. She also knew exactly how to answer my question, so my problem was quickly solved. Highly recommended all the way around.

Perfect fit
This fit well with our simply safe lock system. Not easy ro find a square lock style with one bar locking mechanism to allow the simply safe system to work.

Baldwin Spyglass Single Cylinder Square Deadbolt for Front Door and Garage Door Featuring Microban Antimicrobial Protection and SmartKey Security in Matte Black, Prestige Series (93800-018) I actually haven't installed this dead bolt yet because I'm still waiting for the handle that I plan to install with it. But I've installed other door hardware from this line and the following has been my experience: I love these door handles! I started out ordering one for my front door and ended up ordering them for the rest of the doors in my house! Everything is high quality, from the packaging to installation videos to the sturdy feel of the handle. These are by far the nicest door handles I've ever had. These replaced our old 80's era round gold door knobs, so these are a HUGE improvement, to say the least! They've completely upgraded the look and function of my entire home. They were easy to install, feel smooth and solid and are easy to operate. I love the matte black finish and also the fact that they have an antimicrobial coating. My one issue with all of the Baldwin door handles is that the included instructions could be more clear in regards to what parts are to be used in each step. For example, the instructions do not specify which screws you need to use for each step so you just have to guess basically. If you have some experience with projects like this it's not too hard to figure out, but it would definitely be helpful and make installation go more smoothly if each part was labeled with a letter or number so you know exactly what you're using in each step without having to guess. I won't deduct any stars for this though because the quality of the handle itself is so good. The SmartKey option is a nice feature, and I plan to use it to make my front and back door locks work using the same key.

Moderate security; Kwikset KW1 Core
This deadbolt is decidedly average in just about every way. LOCK BODY STRENGTH: The materials used are nothing special, and relatively weak. The body of this lock is relatively thin metal, and is quite soft. This means it is very easy to drill this lock out. I was able to easily and quickly drill it out with a standard HSS drill bit; I did not need to use my Cobalt or Carbide bits to get through the face. The core does have two ball bearings to provide some semblance of drill protection, but you don't need to drill the core in order to get this open. I won't be mentioning specific drill points in this review, for obvious reasons, but they are not very difficult to figure out. CORE PICKING: The core of this lock appears to be a standard Kwikset SmartKey Core. I was pleased to see this is an updated version of their core with a square sidebar instead of an angled sidebar. This means that standard tensioning and picking are not possible. However, there is a cutout for the sidebar in the side of the core -- this makes it possible to tension the sidebar using a thin piece of feeler gauge and pick the lock this way. This has been documented by other people on the internet already. The square sidebar also necessitates the use of an internal spring to push the sidebar into the correct gates on the sliders. This means that if this spring gets seized up due to dirt/corrosion, the lock is stuck and will not open (unless you put external tension onto the sidebar). Additionally, there are decoding exploits that allow for very easy entry if you have the proper tools. I will not be discussing these, because I have not seen them discussed very much online, and would like to keep that knowledge out of the petty theft community for as long as possible. Suffice it to say, it is not very difficult to get through this core and leave no signs of entry if you know what you're doing. CORE STRENGTH: I have seen reports that these cores can be destructively turned with a screwdriver or special piece of hardened steel resembling a key. I tried with just a screwdriver, but not successful. I postulate that with the SmartKey redesign, Kwikset made some of the internal pieces stronger. I do not have the special hardened steel turning tool to try with, though. DURABILITY: The components and finish on this lock seem to be about average, or slightly below. The finish is just painted on, and there are signs of scratching and very minor flaking after very light handling and testing. I am not confident in how long the finish will last. I would also be weary of using this in locations that are exposed to significant amounts of dirt/sand/salt -- I expect the core will seize up in short order if you do not follow a strict cleaning and lubrication schedule, due to the necessity of spring tension pushing the sidebar into the gates (see picking section above).
