Impressive game!

I purchased this for my daughter for Christmas, and we have played it one time when we got together with my other daughter. We are a Catan family and own almost all the expansions and accessories. It was fairly easy to learn, more so for my daughters, than for myself, being of advanced age and a little slower. But, by the end of the game, which I won, by the way, I was able to have a good understanding of the strategy. It is a large board game and requires a lot of room, so it is not for someone with little table space. We look forward to playing again when we get together, and all feel it is so far, our favorite of all the Catan. Love the rockets and all the pieces, which are well made and fit together snugly. Lots of fun, and different than any of the other Catan games, so a great addition to our collection. If you liked the game, Cootie, as a child, you would probably enjoy the fun of accessorizing your rockets. It took us a couple hours to play the first game, because we were learning it as we played, but I think the average game time can range from 30 minutes to an hour.

An Okay Version

A good variation on Catan. Not as good as the Game of Thrones version of Catan, but nice for a change. Seems to go by quickly. Doesn't seem like you get to take advantage of contacting the alien races much before the game is over.

Amazing Game for the Family

We play the basic Catan all the time. This is a great version that adds so much more fun to the game! Only thing we should have done differently was buy it sooner. The game came in perfect condition in a giant box!

This is my favorite Catan yet

I have about 5 Catan games and this is my favorite yet. The quality of this game is high. You get these cool rocket ships you get to customize, you have new pieces and ships. The single best element for me is the addition of the black encounter cards. It mixes the excitement of “choose your own adventure” and it was freaking genius. They should do something like that to all future game designs. Well worth the money.

Top tier board game

My family loved the original Catan game and we decided to get this one as well. Another great game that while being similar to the Original Still feels like it’s own unique board game

Great game but arrived slightly damaged

Great board game arrived slightly damaged. Nice size gash on the front of the game box. The Amazon box it came in was in good condition.

Best Catan Yet

I have multiple variants of Catan. I didn't even realize that this version existed until I was looking up a rule and found a posting for the first edition. I saw that the second edition was on Amazon and I ordered it last week. It arrived a couple of days ago and I played it last night. The second edition fixes the problems of the first edition in terms of fragile pieces and stickers. Build quality is phenomenal. I would much rather pay $100+ for a game with quality pieces than something cheaply made. It builds on the concepts of the original Catan, but it is a fully new game - not a re-skinning. The way resources are generated, concepts of build/trade are the same. Rest of game is different. Multiple ways of getting victory points, so multiple strategies. You do not get blocked like in original Catan. No roads or seaways to build. It was really exciting to build ships and send them off. Next time we play we will do the variant that doesn't disclose the solar system/empty space until you explore - excited! It is a long game - the box states 2 hours to play. We played for 3 hours (all experienced Catan players, I had read through the rules and almanac before playing this version). The difference is that we had fun and momentum the whole time. It is not uncommon for a Catan game to start to drag at the end and you just want someone to win (and it is generally between two players with the others as also rans). The encounters were really fun. It is a bit like choose your own adventure and you do not know what will happen. My wife is not a big board game player, and she sat out the game last night. By the end of the playtime, she was excited to join us next time.

Best game ever!

The learning curve is a bit steep, but the results are so worth it! Great toys to manipulate and add to as the game progresses. Hours and hours of fun with your best friends of all ages.

If you love Catan you will love this version!

Our family are huge fans of Catan! We have six different versions. This version is more complicated and challenging than the original version. I would suggest if you are new to Catan that you learn how to play the original version and get the hang of it first. If you are familiar with Catan, you will love this version! It is fun to try out different strategies and find what works.

A great new version

Like any other version of Catan, the instructions seem daunting. Once you play your first round, the process becomes much clearer. It helps to have played a variety of other versions to learn this version quicker. We have enjoyed this version a lot. It seams a bit pricey, but a lot of fun to play.
