Worked perfectly
First time making springerle cookies and this worked great. I first used my reg rolling pin to roll dough to desired thickness then went over with this. Very happy with the rolling pin and my results!

Good starter roller
I ordered this as a price friendly version to see if I liked these cookies and to have a simple design set for rolled cookies. Best with low-rise or slow rise cookie doughs. My pin was balanced, the shapes impressed with good detail and I used it on gingerbread squares and shoert read. Content with the details onced baked but some shapes were a little shallow-4/5. good starter roller. To get any roller like this to work with success, 1- dust with flour prior to rolling, 2-press firmly a you roll, 3- use a pastry wheel or pizza roller to cut you pieces as this rler does not cut the cookies-it imprints the patterns. There are many helps on the net and a couple of good videos. Research before trying to make them for the first time. It was fun and produced cookies quickly.

Well Made and a Nice Addtion to Your Kitchen
This is an excellent product to have if you want to try making springerle cookies. Usually springerle cookies are made for the Christmas holidays. The molds in this rolling pin are generic and can work for any season. Traditional springerle molds can be very expensive and this rolling pin is an economic way to try your hand with this cookie. I have a traditional springerle mold and augmented my collection of seasonal cookie cutters, etc. with this springerle rolling pin. It is well made and comes with an excellent recipe which is well worth keeping. Springerle cookies have been around for about 400 years and originated in Austria and Germany. The Dutch and Belgians have a version of them, too.

Okay but would have paid more for higher quality.
This Springerle rolling pin works okay but leaves a little to be desired. 1) The 2 pieces (handles/middle piece and the etched, outer piece) don't roll together as smoothly as I would like. It seems to 'catch' a little while you're trying to stamp the designs on the dough. With a normal rolling pin, this doesn't matter. With this pin, you need to keep the designs lined up so they look okay when you cut them out. I had to end up holding (and pushing down slightly) the pin by the middle while I was rolling it. 2) The designs are a little crudely carved but they look okay once they're stamped/baked. It would be nice if the designs were a little more detailed or easier to distinguish what they were supposed to be - they're rather abstract and they're not all quite as 'unique' as I would like. 3) It would be nice if the outside had some sort of finish or smoothness - it's a very bare wood on the rolling pin. I worry how it will wear and hold up in the future. Overall an okay product. As good as most others for sale on Amazon.

Good Budget Springele Rolling Pin
Before going out and buying an intricate (and expensive) Springele rolling pin--try this one. I bake a lot of cookies, and have a smaller Springele roller (as well as several intricate Springele forms). This roller is nice and wide, but it is not the most intricately carved (you get what you pay for). It does come with a recipe for Springele cookies. I have not tried the recipe, but thought it was a nice--especially if the whole concept of these traditional German cookies are new to you.
