Just OK…

Replacement for Acme 12lb. that needed to be replaced because of tangled cable. This alternative doesn’t provide the same ‘holding power’ as the Acme version, the top sash wants to easily fall. Thought I’d save a buck, next time I’ll spend more to get the Acme… I wanted this to work.

Not the best you can find but might be the only one you can find.

Unless you manufacture new window frames, you probably are getting a sash balance as a replacement. You need to to know the weight of your window sash before ordering. You can usually find a number in pounds stamped on the face of the broken one. There used to be a sizing chart printed on the box if you couldn't find the weight. It's no longer there. I bought and installed a few and I found these to be lighter than the specified poundage and uneven from one cable to the next. The certainly don't pull as hard as the original 12 lb. Acme Twin found in thousands of double hung windows. There is an adjustable model at more than twice the price but it needs a bigger cut out. I wish these were more consistent. This model will not adjust in any way just as the old ones didn't have that feature either. I think I will go up to the next weight on any further purchases to make sure the window (sash) stays up when opened. I have been repairing windows for over 40 years. Good luck with yours.

Exact replacement for 1950's ACME balance.

OK. This is an exact replacement for ACME or equivalent. No problems. The optional spring guides supplied would be useful in many applications.

Good replacement part

I Use these balances to replace Historic balances in buildings here in San Francisco. They are slightly different than the ACME brand in that they are tabbed together so they can be repaired or have cables replaced. Excellent "In Kind" replacement part.
