Works alright

The tape measure is true to length and is the main reason I bought the combo set. It feels just as sturdy as any other fabric tape measure you would buy. I give the tape measure itself 5 stars for the price and quality. English units (inches) in large font size on front and Metric units (millimeters) on smaller font size on the back. If you're buying this for the pencils then don't. They are awful and barely leave a mark. I didn't even consider them when making my purchase and I'm glad I didn't.

Well made!

Compared to another product that cost more money, this is hands down the best! A previous product purchase from another company resulted in receiving a flimsy thin tape that did NOT measure as promised and did not have the metal ends. In fact, it cost more than this one, didn't have the marking pencils and for all intents and purposes was completely USELESS. The measurement intervals weren't even correct. It was a total debacle. I'm so glad this was available.

Good measuring tape; pencils not especially useful

The measuring tape is everything it needs to be. It feels a little cheaply made, but not in such a way that I'd expect it not to last. It's made of a smooth rubbery material with fibers running through it to keep it from stretching. The printing isn't super sharp or straight, but this thing is for sewing projects, not machining jet engine components. The numbers (on the inch side) are huge and should be very readable even for people with less-than-excellent eyesight. The marking pencils aren't so great. In my experience, to leave a visible mark they require you to either press hard or go back and forth several times. For straight lines (where you can hold down the fabric with a ruler) or small marks (where you can just gently jog the tip back and forth until you get a visible mark) this is not such a big deal, but for scribbling little notes or drawing freehand curves they're just not very useful. Pushing hard enough to get a mark in a single pass usually just results in the tip dragging and distorting the fabric. Of course, your mileage may vary based on the material you're working with, but as general-purpose fabric marking tools I can't see these being very useful. In short, think of this as a decent measuring tape with a couple of pencils thrown in as a bonus. If you want to be able to jot notes, I would go with a "disappearing ink" marker or a simple chalk pencil. If you're mostly looking for something to draw outlines for cutting and stitching, the best solution I've found is a chalk roller like the Clover Chaco Liner: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017G8Q3O/

Will never misplace my tape measure again!

I am always misplacing my tape measures because I use them constantly all around the house. Well, I'll never misplace this one! Not only is it a happy, bright pink, but it's also 10 feet long! FANTASTIC LARGE inch markings! Easy to read, easy to use, supple and strong. Hard to get excited over a tape measure but I'm genuinely thrilled with this one.

Doesn’t mark easily

It doesn’t mark very easily, so it wasn’t a great choice for my bigger sewing projects, but if you’re altering or doing something small, it should suffice.
